Obergurgl is the highest traditional village in the Alps and, therefore, benefits from some of the best snowfall in the area.

Obergurgl is quite small with around 500 permanet residents and approximately 40 hotels. The local Festkogl ski area extends above 3000 metres which ensures the ski season lasts almost 6 months of the year. The Hochgurgl – Obergurgl ski area has some of the most advanced ski lifts in the world with an uphill capacity of 12,500 people per hour, even though there are never more than 2,500 people on the slopes. This means no queues and a great skiing experience. With a wide range of runs there is enough choice to ensure skiiers of all ability have an enojoyable week.

Activities & Facilities at Obergurgl

High–altitude cross–country skiing tracks and winter walking trails are available as well as ice skating and curling. Many of the hotels have their own indoor pools and spa facilities. Indoor activities in the area include bowling, a horse riding arena and a state of the art golf simulator at Hotel Riml.

Obergurgl has a quiet and sophisticated après ski scene which consists mainly of hotel bars and restaurants. Popular venues include Pic Nic, the Belmonte, Krumpns Stadl or the Austria Keller. Local restaurants offer a good selection of cuisine including some great italian choice (not surprising as the resort borders Italy).
