Mongolia and the Naadam Festival
Days 1-2 : Fly to Ulaanbaatar
Fly overnight to Ulaanbaatar, capital of Mongolia.
Days 3-4 : Explore Ulaanbaatar
Spend two days touring Ulaanbaatar including Sukhbaatar Square and Gandan Monastery, the largest and most important monastery in Mongolia. Later visit the local markets at Zaisan Memorial Hill and Buddha’s Park. In the evening see a traditional folklore performance.
Day 5 : Terelj National Park
Drive to the mountainous Terelj National Park, visit Turtle Rock and enjoy some easy walking up to Aryabal Monastery. Visit a local nomadic family before returning to Ulaanbaatar.
Days 6-7 : Yolym Am Gorge
Fly to Dalanzadgad, located on the edge of the legendary and inhospitable Gobi Desert. Travel by 4WD through the Gobi Desert to Yolyn Am Gorge, in the Gobi National Park, to admire the breathtaking mountains and vast sand dunes.
Day 8 : Singing Dunes, Khongoryn Els
Continue to Khongoryn Els, the location of the largest sand dunes in Mongolia, the famous Singing Dunes.
Day 9 : Flaming Cliffs, Bayanzag
Travel to Bayanzag, known as the Flaming Cliffs, and admire the incredible colours, before visiting the Dinosaur Cemetery..
Day 10 : Ongii Khiid Monastery
Drive to the banks of the Ongii River to view the ruins of the Ongii Khiid monastic complex.
Days 11–12 : Mt Khogno Khan
Explore the remains of Uvgun Khiid Monastery at the foot of the imposing Mt Khogno Khan. The next day continue to the ancient capital of Kharkhorin on the Orkhon River. Later visit the first Buddhist monastery in Mongolia, Erdene Zuu Monastery.
Day 13 : Tsenkher Jiguur Hot Springs
Visit Tsenkher Jiguur and enjoy free time to relax in the hot springs and admire the verdant scenery.
Day 14 : Great White Lake
Continue to the stunning Great White Lake and take a gentle walk up Khorgo Volcano situated 900m above the lake.
Days 15-17 : Lake Khovsgol
Travel to Jargal Jiguur ger camp and then the next day continue to stunning Lake Khovsgol, known as the Dark Blue Pearl. Surrounded by forest and meadows we have two nights here to relax and enjoy the incredible scenery..
Days 18-19 : Môron to Ulaanbaatar
Travel to Môron and fly to Ulaanbaatar the following day.
Days 20-22 : Ulaanbaatar
Over the next three days join the annual festivities of the Naadam Festival, dating back to the Genghis Khan period. Witness the incredible pageantry and ceremony of the festival and enjoy events such as wrestling, horse racing and archery: the Three Manly Games.
Day 23 : Ulaanbaatar to the UK
Fly to the UK arriving home the same or following day.
