Costa Rica Rainforest and Ocean

Day 1 UK to San Jose
Fly to San Jose via Madrid or Miami and transfer to your hotel for 2 nights in this laid-back city.

Day 2 Coffee and Jungle
Breakfast visit to the Doka coffee estate, to see where Costa Rican coffee is picked and packaged. Later guided tour to Poas Volcano and the beautiful La Paz Waterfalls Gardens to see exotic butterflies and hummingbirds.

Day 3 To Tortuguero
Travel by road and boat through the mangrove canals to Tortuguero National Park for 2 nights on the Caribbean. If visiting from June to October take an evening visit to the beach to see nesting marine turtles, an unforgettable spectacle.

Day 4 Tortuguero
From your lodge, you will be taken on group boat tours through the canals in search of wildlife, from howler monkeys and giant sloth to toucan and other colourful tropical birds. You can visit Tortuguero village on the Caribbean coast, and in turtle nesting season, take a guided night visit to the beach to see marine turtles hatching.

Day 5 To Arenal
Journey across the mountains to Arenal, in the shadow of the imposing volcano. You can relax in natural hot springs, see the jungle at treetop level on canopy walks and fly through the forest on zip lines. This is also a great place for walks and horse riding.

Day 6 Arenal
Today is a free day in Arenal. Simply relax at the hotel, with views of the volcano and surrounded by pristine nature. Or take a tour to the base of the volcano or to the Arenal Hanging Bridges to see the jungle canopy up close.

Day 7 To The Pacific Coast
Transfer overland to the Pacific Ocean coast and your hotel at Tamarindo or the beautiful Nicoya Peninsula for time on the beach, relaxing by the pool and enjoying the natural environment of the coast, where the jungle meets the sea.

Day 8 – 9 The Pacific Coast
Spend your days relaxing on the coast, or choosing from a host of activities including boat trips, bird watching walks, a full day visit to Granada in Nicaragua, or activities such as surfing lessons or rafting on the Colorado river inland.

Day 10 Depart
Transfer to the airstrip for a short flight to San Jose. Connect with your onward flight to the UK. If flying home via the USA, you may need an extra night in San Jose. Alternatively you may wish to extend your time in Costa Rica, to the Manuel Antonio National Park on the southern coast, or the beautiful remote Pacuare Lodge.

Day 11 Arrive
Arrive in the UK.
