Days 1-2 : Fly to Beijing
Fly to Beijing, capital of China.
Day 3 : Great Wall of China
Walk on the Great Wall started by the First Emperor, Qin Shihuang, over 2,000 years ago to protect China from invaders from the north. Tour the extensive Summer Palace, playground of Emperors, and see the Marble Boat. Our evening meal includes China’s most famous delicacy, Peking Duck.
Day 4 : Kite Flying & Forbidden City
Spend the morning making and flying traditional elaborate Chinese kites. Stroll through the enormous Tiananmen Square, past Chairman Mao’s Mausoleum, to the treasure filled Forbidden City, home of the Last Emperor. Fly to Xian.
Day 5 : Terracotta Warriors
Visit one of the most important archaeological discoveries of the 20th Century, the Terracotta Warriors, built to serve Emperor Qin Shihuang in the afterlife, and sculpt your own warriors. Later cycle along Xian’s Ancient City Walls.
Day 6 : Chinese Calligraphy Class
Take a Chinese calligraphy class in the morning. Fly to Chengdu.
Day 7 : Giant Pandas
Visit the Panda Conservation Centre to see these charismatic animals being reared in wooded surroundings. You may also choose to join the reserve’s vital conservation work. Leave Chengdu on an overnight flight home.
Day 8 : Arrive UK
Return to the UK.
