Days 1-2 : Fly to Shanghai
Fly overnight to the cosmopolitan city of Shanghai, also known as the ‘Paris of the East’.
Days 3-4 : Discover Shanghai
Sightseeing today includes a stroll through the traditional Yu Gardens and the Old Town. We also walk along the famous Bund with its colonial architecture and visit the modern Pudong area. In the evening, enjoy a cruise on the panoramic Huangpu River. The next day visit the Shanghai Museum, and explore the restored Xintiandi area with its unique 1920’s style Shikumen buildings. In the evening we will board the overnight train to legendary Mt Huang (Yellow Mountain).
Days 5-6 : Stunning Mt Huang
Arrive at Mt Huang in the morning. Take a cable car to the summit to enjoy the spectacular views of the oddly shaped peaks, rock formations, thousand year old pine trees and mysterious ever-changing mist, all of which have inspired local artists for centuries. Stay for two nights here, one of which will be at the summit and the other in Tunxi, at the foot of the mountain.
Days 7-8 : UNESCO Zhangjiajie
Transfer to Huangshan Airport and fly to Changsha, the capital of Hunan Province. Continue by road to Zhangjiajie, inspiration for the scenery in the film Avatar. Enjoy breathtaking scenery exploring the UNESCO listed Zhangjiajie area, which offers a mix of spectacular limestone formations, sub-tropical forests, waterfalls, mountain ranges and majestic valleys.
Day 9 : Fly to Chongqing
Spend the day exploring more of this striking area before boarding a late evening flight to Chongqing.
Day 10 : Historical Ciqikou
Explore the city of Chongqing visiting the vibrant, living historical town of Ciqikou, the traditional Erlin Gardens and the General Stilwell Museum.
Day 11 : Black Mountain Valley
Visit Black Mountain (Heishan) Valley and follow a path through the spectacular gorge. We will be immersed in the natural beauty of this picturesque area with its rushing streams, waterfalls and lush vegetation. Continue by road to Wulong.
Days 12-13 : Awe-Inspiring Wulong
Spend the day walking in some of the most fascinating scenery in China. Visit the Three Bridges National Park, which features some of the highest natural arches in the world. Here we will walk down into the valley and below these impressive formations. Also trek through the Longshuixia Fissure, a deep and narrow valley with sheer cliffs. The next day explore Wulong further and in the afternoon visit Furong Cave to see the illuminated stalactites and stalagmites. Drive to Chongqing.
Days 14-16 : Nine Villages Valley
Fly to the beautiful Nine Villages Valley (Jiuzhaigou), a botanical gallery that is heavily forested and home to many protected species. Entering the valley is like being transported into a different world, where crystal clear lakes gather at the foot of every waterfall and rich dense forests are dotted with colourful flowers. The entire valley presents a seemingly never-ending display of stunning natural scenery that will inspire any budding photographer. We stay in the area for three nights to make the most of this delightful region.
Day 17 : Huanglong Pools
Travel by coach to Huanglong, renowned for its hundreds of sparkling mineral pools where beautiful colours intertwine and the waters cascade down the mountainside. We have the option to take a cable car or walk past the many waterfalls to visit Huanglong Temple. Later, fly to Chengdu.
Day 18 : Chengdu
Visit the famous Panda Reserve to see these adorable animals being reared in wooded surroundings reminiscent of their natural habitat. Enjoy a delicious Sichuan meal in the evening.
Day 19 : Fly Chengdu to UK
Fly to the UK arriving home the same day or the following morning.
