Eternal Rome, Sorrento and The Neapolitan Riviera
Day 1 Depart London
You’ll fly direct to Rome and transfer for a 3 night stay in the heart of the city. The rest of the day is free for you to begin your exploration of the Italian capital.
Day 2 Rome
On today’s half day guided tour of Ancient Rome, you’ll see Capitol Square, the result of Michelangelo’s architectural genius and the seat of Rome Town Hall. You’ll admire the temple of Vesta, the Arch of Titus and the Arch of Constantine, and enjoy the unique sight of the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill with a view of the massive structure of The Coliseum, before entering this marvel of ancient engineering and seeing it up close. The rest of the day is free for you to continue at your own pace.
Meals: Breakfast.
Day 3 Rome
Today you’ll enjoy a full day at leisure following yesterday’s introduction to the city. There are still plenty of new sights and sounds to take in, such as the baroque jewel of Rome – the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps, and the Pantheon, originally a pagan temple. You may like to visit the Sistine Chapel or do some people watching from one of the city’s many cafes and bars.
Meals: Breakfast.
Day 4 Rome to Sorrento
On a day of contrasts, you’ll board a southbound train from Rome’s main station and take the journey to Naples. You’ll be met on arrival and transfer to idyllic Sorrento with spectacular views over the Bay of Naples.
Meals: Breakfast.
Day 5 Sorrento
Because Sorrento is so easy to get around and with so many choices on how to spend your time, you will enjoy your days at leisure here. Why not have a relaxed first day getting to know the town on foot. Enjoying a drink in one of the bars at the Piazza Tasso will give you an introduction to Sorrento life and is fascinating for people watching, plus there are some interesting boutiques and a market. Later have a delicious meal in one of the many restaurants, whether you choose fresh fish or a typical wood-fired pizza.
Meals: Breakfast.
Day 6 Sorrento
Feeling refreshed today, why not opt for an extra optional excursion to Pompeii – a flourishing Roman town that was engulfed by lava when Vesuvius erupted in AD79. Now a UNESCO World Heritage site, you can walk through the town exactly as it was when the volcano erupted. It provides a complete and vivid picture of society and daily life that is without parallel anywhere in the world and is well worth a visit.
Meals: Breakfast.
Day 7 Sorrento
On your last day in Italy, why not take an optional trip to the picturesque island of Capri which is very close to the Sorrento mainland, visit the tiny fishing village of Positano on the Amalfi Coast, much loved by artists including Picasso, or simply relax and enjoy your hotel pool.
Meals: Breakfast.
Day 8 Arrive London
