Grand Voyage to Easter Island with South Pacific Islands and Sydney
Day 1 London – In Flight
Titan’s VIP Home Departure Service® transports you from your front door to London Heathrow airport for your scheduled flight to Madrid to connect with your direct scheduled overnight LAN flight to Santiago.
Day 2 Santiago, Chile
This morning our flight arrives into Santiago and we transfer to the 4★ Hotel Plaza San Francisco or similar, for time to relax. This afternoon we take a tour of this cosmopolitan capital city which occupies a spectacular location at the base of the mighty Andes Mountains. Later we return to our hotel for an included dinner.
Day 3 Santiago – Valparaiso, Chile
After breakfast, we depart for Vina del Mar, Chile’s major seaside resort where we drive through the town and along the coast road, passing sandy beaches, home to a variety of birds, penguins and sea lions. After lunch in a local restaurant, we continue to Valparaiso for an afternoon embarkation on Black Watch and a late night sailing.
Day 4 At Sea
Day 5 Robinson Crusoe Island, Chile
A tiny island located off the coast of the South American continent, it is widely believed that the story of a sailor who became marooned on the island for four years helped to inspire Daniel Defoe’s bestseller Robinson Crusoe, created back in 1719. The island has a population of less than 1,000, but there is a thriving tourist trade, with the main activity being snorkelling and scuba diving.
Days 6-9 At Sea
Day 10 Hanga Roa (Easter Island), Chile
The headline destination of our voyage and one of the many highlights of this extraordinary journey, Easter Island is a UNESCO world heritage site, with much of the island protected within the Rapa Nui National Park. Just down the road from the port of Hanga Roa, you will find the famous Moai statues. Carved out of stone from the island’s local resources over a period between 1250 and 1500, they are mainly to be found around the coastline of the island, inland, as if surveying their territory. The statues have moved many times over the years, with many local myths about the statues’ ability to walk on their own accord. Truly a once in a lifetime experience.
Day 11-15 At Sea
Day 16 Papeete, Tahiti
The very name conjures up images of Gauguin paintings, palm trees, golden beaches and blue seas, and Tahiti does not disappoint – this really is a near perfect Polynesian island. Papeete has the world’s only Pearl Museum, tracing the history and mythology of pearls as well as lots of examples of black, white and pink pearls. The market is spread out over two floors and has sumptuous displays of flowers – Tahitian homes are considered incomplete without fl owers everywhere.
Day 17 At Sea
Day 18 Rarotonga, Cook Islands
Avarua, the largest town and capital of the Cook Islands, is compact and picturesque. Most of the shops are on Marine Drive, which follows the waterfront between the two harbours. Here, and in the town itself, are family restaurants and small cafes in which to relax. Set in shaded parkland, the restored 19th century palace of Queen Makea Takau Ariki, is worth seeing – organised tours are sometimes available.
Day 19-23 At Sea
Days 24-25 Auckland, New Zealand
The “City of Sails” is built on 50 islands, but is small enough to explore on foot. Start at the Auckland Museum, with displays of Maori artefacts and a 20-minute cultural performance three times a day. For a different view, see the starlit southern skies from a planetarium or visit the Sky Tower, the tallest structure in the country with its revolving restaurant.
Day 26 Bay of Islands, New Zealand
Captain Cook, on his fi rst visit here in 1769, chose the name because of the 150 or so islands dotted around the deep-blue waters. Russell was the first permanent European settlement in New Zealand and it was here that the Treaty of Waitangi was signed between the Maori people and the British in 1840. These days, Russell is a place to relax and enjoy some of the best scenery in the world.
Day 27-29 At Sea
Day 30 Sydney, Australia
There is much to see in Sydney, but fortunately many of the sights are concentrated around the iconic harbour. The Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge have become symbols of Australia. The Rocks are the oldest part of Sydney, a former dockland area that is now packed with restaurants, cafes and shops. The Royal Botanic Gardens spread out over almost 30 hectares, sloping down to the sea. This evening we enjoy our last night onboard at the end of an unforgettable voyage.
Day 31 Sydney, Australia
We bid a fond farewell to Black Watch and disembark this morning to enjoy an included boat cruise around the magnificent harbour to get another perspective of this exciting city. Later, we transfer to the 4★ Parkroyal Hotel, ideally located close to Darling Harbour, where we spend the next two nights.
Day 32 Sydney, Australia
A last day in Sydney to do as you please.
