This morning we travel towards the capital city of the Saxony region, Dresden. We include a tour of Meissen’s most popular tourist attraction, the Porcelain Museum, where we discover the making of porcelain wares, known all around the world as masterpieces in “white gold”. We later reach our hotel for the next three nights, the 4★ Westin Bellevue Hotel located in the heart of Dresden along the River Elbe and dinner is included at your hotel tonight.

Day 5 Dresden
After breakfast we will join a local guide on an included walking tour of this historic city. Despite the damage it suffered during World War II, Dresden has rebuilt itself to its former glory and attracts many visitors from all around the world with its true Baroque atmosphere and its historical landmarks. The 15th century Royal Palace was rebuilt after a fire 1701 by August the Strong, and the historic Green Vault, which displays a unique historical collection of 18th century ceremonial jewellery of the Saxong Kings, are only two of Dresden’s highlights. The most perfect example of Germany’s late Baroque architecture is the Zwinger Palace. Originally designed as an orangery, this grand palace contains beautiful gardens and pavilions as well as famous art collections like Raphael’s Sistine Madonna. We return to our hotel where the rest of the evening is free for your own exploration.
Optional excursion:
‘Moritzburg with ride on the narrow-gauge railway Lossnitzdackel’ from £55.00 per person

Day 6 Dresden – Elbe cruise
Today, we explore Dresden and the Elbe Valley from a captain’s point of view by joining a river sightseeing tour. The Pillnitz Cruise departs from Dresden, and will pass beautiful vineyards and impressive Elbe Palaces – Albrechtsberg Palace, Lingner Palace, Eckberg Palace and finally arriving at Pillnitz Palace, the Baroque Jewel and once the summer residence of the Saxon kings. The cruise includes lunch before returning to Dresden where you are at leisure for the remainder of the day.

Day 7 Dresden – Colditz Castle – Leipzig – Berlin
After breakfast we commence our journey to Berlin but first we visit Colditz Castle, built on rocks high above the town and overlooking the valley of the River Mulde. Without doubt this was the most notorious of prisoner-of-war camps and was the inspiration of the film “The Colditz Story”.
This afternoon we continue to Leipzig, a city standing at the confluence of the Weisse Ekster and Pleisse rivers, and at the crossroads of two great trading routes. On arrival we commence our orientation tour, passing St Thomas Church, the burial place of Johann Sebastian Bach, their choirmaster for over a quarter of a century.
We later reach Berlin and our hotel, the 4★ Maritim Hotel, located between the Tiergarten and the river or the 4★ Crowne Plaza Berlin City Centre situated near the Kurfuerstendamm shopping district.

Day 8 Berlin
Today we start with a guided orientation tour of the bewitching capital of Berlin, passing well-known sights such as The Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, built between 1891 and 1895 as a memorial to Emperor Wilhelm 1. The Neo-Renaissance style Reichstag building housed the first session of the new diet of the Empire in 1894 and, almost one hundred years later, hosted the inaugural sessions of the parliament of a reunified Germany. The German and French Cathedrals dominate one of Berlin’s most beautiful squares, the Gendarmenmarket, named after the King Sergeant Friedrich Wilhelm’s ‘Gens d’Armes’. Also not to be missed is the famous Brandenburg Gate, for so many years a symbol of a divided city. This afternoon is at leisure to shop along fashionable Kurfurstendamm and Tauentzienstrasse.
