Samburu Safari
A fantastic introduction to the splendours of Kenya, visiting a variety of national parks along a classic safari route. Visit Lake Nakuru and Lake Naivasha, home to a variety of birds including bright pink flamingoes. The final destination is the Masai Mara, teaming with a host of plains game plus the ‘big five’.
DAY 1 SUNDAY HEATHROW-NAIROBI
Fly from Heathrow overnight to Nairobi.
DAY 2 MONDAY ABERDARES
Transfer to the Somak Safari Lounge, where you can freshen up before departing for the Aberdares (180 km – approximately 4 hours)arriving in time for lunch at Outspan. Later proceed to Treetops. Rest of the afternoon at leisure. Overnight: Treetops. (l,d)
DAY 3 TUESDAY SAMBURU
Drive north across the equator to the Samburu National Reserve (220 km – approximately 4 hours) and check in to your lodge for lunch. Afternoon game drive. Overnight: Samburu Game Lodge. (b,l,d)
DAY 4 WEDNESDAY SAMBURU
Morning and late afternoon game drives in Samburu National Reserve. Overnight: Samburu Game Lodge. (b,l,d)
DAY 5 THURSDAY LAKE NAKURU
After breakfast descend into the Great Rift Valley, stopping en route for lunch at Thomson’s Falls (275 km – approximately 5 hours). Continue to Lake Nakuru with a game drive en route to the lodge (70 km – approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes). Overnight: Lake Nakuru Lodge. (b,l,d)
DAY 6 FRIDAY MASAI MARA
Drive to the Masai Mara National Reserve (270 km – approximately 5 hours 30 minutes). An afternoon game drive. Overnight: Keekorok Lodge. (b,l,d)
DAY 7 SATURDAY MASAI MARA
Enjoy an early morning game drive followed by breakfast at the lodge. Or take an early morning balloon flight over the Mara followed by a ‘bubbly’ bush breakfast (optional extra). Afternoon game drive. Overnight: Keekorok Lodge. (b,l,d)
DAY 8 SUNDAY EXTENSION OR HEATHROW
After breakfast, return to Nairobi by road (300 km – 5 hours ), or fly from the Mara to Nairobi: morning flight (from £170); lunch in the Mara and afternoon flight (from £205). Proceed with your chosen beach extension or return to Heathrow. (b)
