Texas & New Orleans

Day 1: UK/Fort Worth
Depart on your scheduled flight to Dallas/Fort Worth. On arrival, you will transfer to your hotel in Fort Worth for a two-night stay.

Day 2: Dallas & Fort Worth
Today you’ll take the short drive to Dallas to enjoy the sights of the city on our included morning tour. You’ll take in Pioneer Plaza, with its distinctive sculpture depicting a 19th century cattle drive, before visiting the famous arts district and Dealey Plaza, the site of the assassination of John F Kennedy in 1963. Here, you have the option to visit the outstanding Sixth Floor Museum, which outlines the events that led up to that fateful day.

Enjoy a lunch at leisure before returning to Fort Worth in the afternoon, where you might wish to join our optional excursion to the Fort Worth Stockyards. Here you’ll get a flavour of what life was once like in this Wild West cowboy town. Then it’s on to the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame, which serves as a reminder of the skill and courage it took to trail cattle hundreds of miles across this vast and beautiful country. This evening, you may have the option of watching a traditional Wild West rodeo show.

Day 3: Austin
You’ll journey to Austin today, the capital of the Lone Star State and live music capital of the world. Visit the Capitol State building and then settle in for your overnight stay, where you might like to use the hotel pool, bar and restaurant, or experience local live music in one of the many downtown venues.

Day 4: San Antonio
Today you will travel to San Antonio for a three-night stay. Here you will visit Texas’ most famous sight – the Alamo. Here, in 1836, just 189 Texan forces defended the building against 4,000 Mexican troops for 13 days before ultimately being defeated. Once you’ve soaked up the history, our tour continues with a visit to the largest Mexican market town in Texas, El Mercado, where there will be time to browse the imported pottery and sample real Tex-Mex cuisine. The day ends with a visit to the historic arts village of La Villita, with its pretty streets lined with galleries, boutiques and cafés.

Day 5: San Antonio
Yee-ha! Saddle up and spend today sampling life as a cowboy or girl with our optional full-day trip to the Silver Spur Ranch. You can choose to go horseriding, or you may prefer to relax by the pool. Either way, you’ll get the chance to sample a traditional Western lunch. If you prefer, you can spend today taking things at your own pace in San Antonio.

Day 6: Free Day
Relax and enjoy a day at leisure to make your own discoveries. The River Walk is a great place to explore, lined with bustling cafés, shops and entertainment venues – or take to the water with a boat trip. Shoppers can check out the Rivercenter Mall with its impressive branch of Macy’s – and for great views, climb to the observation deck of the 750ft-tall Tower of the Americas.

Day 7: Houston
This morning, you’ll travel to Houston for an overnight stay. Join the optional excursion to the world-famous NASA Space Station, where you can take a virtual journey into space.

Day 8: New Orleans
Today, you’ll cross the state line into Louisiana and on to New Orleans – the birthplace of jazz and one of the USA’s oldest cities. Settle into your hotel or why not join our optional walking tour of the city.

Day 9: New Orleans
After a sightseeing tour by coach, you will have time to take in the atmospheric French Quarter, with its narrow streets, wrought-iron balconies and flowercovered verandas. The streets here ring to the sound of authentic jazz from the bars and cafés of Bourbon Street. Explore the downtown area, with its imposing Superdome, and then this evening there’s the option to join a dinner cruise aboard an authentic paddle steamer, accompanied by live jazz music.

Day 10: New Orleans
Today you transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK.

Day 11: New Orleans/UK
Arrive in the UK.
