Day 2 Rio de Janeiro
We take a full day tour of this marvellous and expansive city that has spread up the sides of granite peaks and down to the famous sandy beaches and where 17th century churches rub shoulders with modern skyscrapers. Not only do we travel to the top of Sugarloaf Mountain by way of a spectacular cable car, but we also journey to the top of the Corcovado Mountain where you stand 700 metres above the ocean with the iconic statue of Christ the Redeemer for a fantastic view of this vibrant samba city.
Day 3 Rio de Janeiro
Today is free to enjoy the delights of Rio, from a stroll on Copacabana beach to further exploration of the city’s cultural sights. This evening there is the opportunity for an optional Rio by night excursion, which includes dinner at a traditional churrascaria restaurant followed by a folklore and carnival show where you will view the skilled dancers in their dazzling costumes.
Day 4 Rio de Janeiro – Iguazu Falls
This morning we fly to Iguazu. Located on the border of Argentina and Brazil nothing can prepare you for the stunning sight of Iguazu Falls which consists of over 270 separate falls up to 70 metres high and where over half a million gallons of water crash down every second. The most panoramic views of the falls are to be enjoyed on the Brazilian side and we take a walking tour along the strategically placed walkways and footbridges for some excellent vistas. We stay for two nights at the Esturion Hotel located over the border in Argentina.
Day 5 Iguazu Falls
This morning we visit the Argentinean side of the falls, including the spectacular Devil’s Throat. This afternoon you can make your own explorations.
Day 6 Iguazu Falls – El Calafate
Today we depart for our flight to Buenos Aires and onward connecting flight to El Calafate, located in the heart of Argentinean Patagonia. The town sits next to Lago Argentino – the largest lake in Argentina, where the turquoise waters are surrounded on its western side by snow-capped mountains and the glorious glaciers, which are fed by the Southern Patagonian Ice Field. On arrival we transfer to the Hotel Kau Yatun for a three night stay. Tonight we enjoy an included dinner at our hotel.
Day 7 Perito Moreno Glacier
Today we view the amazing sight of the Perito Moreno Glacier, which is located in the southern area of Los Glaciares National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This imposing piece of natural beauty stands over 50 metres high and descends slowly from the Patagonia Continental Ice Sheet to the lakeshore. Enormous chunks of ice regularly fall from its side into the Channel of Icebergs, sending waves of water thundering to the shore. Less frequently, the advancing glacier dams an arm of the lake, until the water pressure becomes too much and the dam spectacularly collapses. Later today we return to El Calafate.
Day 8 El Calafate
A full day at leisure to make your own explorations. Alternatively you can take a full day optional tour to Los Glaciares National Park. Travelling by boat through spectacular scenery along Lake Argentino the journey heads through the ‘Devil’s Throat’ towards the Spegazzini Glacier, the highest glacier in the Patagonian ice cap. Continue on a walking tour through the forest to Onelli Lake, where the Onelli, Bolado and Agassiz Glaciers come together. In the afternoon the tour continues by boat through magical scenery for a stop at the massive Upsala Glacier before returning to El Calafate.
Day 9 El Calafate – Buenos Aires
We fly to Buenos Aires, the elegant and bustling capital city of Argentina, known as the ‘Paris of South America’. Following our arrival we transfer to the Elevage Hotel for a three night stay. This evening we have included a tasty dinner followed by a visit to a Tango House, where performers will demonstrate this lively and inspiring art form.
Day 10 Buenos Aires
This morning we take a tour of Buenos Aires. The city flaunts its European heritage and is carved up by wide avenues lined by jacaranda trees and magnificent buildings such as the Casa Rosada, the presidential palace where uniformed guards stand to attention, the Cabildo, one of Buenos Aires few remaining colonial buildings and the Metropolitan Cathedral. San Telmo is the oldest district in the city and has a charm all of its own with cobbled streets lined by tango bars and cafe’s. The Recoleta Cemetery is an artistic celebration of architecture at its finest, with many ornate marble crypts and elaborate mausoleums, which include the grave of Eva Duarte, who became famous as Eva Peron. The afternoon is free to make your own explorations. Why not further explore the region of La Boca, which is full of brightly painted houses and a region where many artists live and work.
Day 11 Buenos Aires
Today you are free in Buenos Aires. You may wish to take an optional excursion to visit an estancia. At this country residence the Argentine Gauchos will entertain you with traditional music and dancing.
