Days 1-2 : Fly to Kunming
Fly overnight to Kunming.
Day 3 : Stone Forest
Visit the unique UNESCO World Heritage listed Stone Forest where massive limestone columns form a vast forest of surreal shapes and images.
Days 4-5 : Enchanting Dali
Fly to the enchanting town of Dali and visit the Ancient Quarter. See the charming Song Dynasty’s Three Pagodas which dominate the skyline above Dali’s ancient city walls and cruise on Erhai Lake.
Day 6 : Discover Lijiang
Drive to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Lijiang. Visit the picturesque Black Dragon Pool and wander the back street markets filled with traditional Naxi women.
Day 7 : Jade Dragon Snow Mountain
Explore the impressive Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, which soars to a height of 5,500m. Take a chairlift to explore the high meadows to view the amazing scenery before touring the Baisha Frescoes.
Day 8 : Tiger Leaping Gorge
Visit Tiger Leaping Gorge, one of the most dramatic and deepest gorges in the world and enjoy the breathtaking scenery before continuing to Zhongdian, also known as Shangri-La.
Day 9 : Baishui Terraces
Travel to the Baishui Terraces where spring water cascades over layers of white limestone pools.
Day 10 : Tibetan Zhongdian
Visit Songshanlin Monastery, which was built by the 5th Dalai Lama over 300 years ago. Next explore the old town in Zhongdian and a Tibetan village.
Day 11 : Fly to Lhasa
Fly to Lhasa, the spiritual heart of Tibet. The afternoon is at leisure to help acclimatise to the altitude.
Day 12 : Jokhang Temple & Bazaar
Sightseeing today includes a stroll around the Barkhor circuit where traditional dress, market stalls selling religious trinkets and the sound of chanted prayers create the atmosphere of a medieval carnival. We also visit the 7th century Jokhang Temple, which is the most sacred in Tibet and the Sera Monastery, which has about 600 monks in residence.
Day 13 : Potala Palace
Explore the crown jewel of Tibet – the Potala Palace. The palace is an architectural wonder that towers over the city with thousands of rooms filled with treasures such as intricate shrines and beautiful frescoes. We also visit Norbulingka, the former summer palace of the Dalai Lama, containing several palaces and chapels; and a local Tibetan carpet workshop. Enjoy a traditional Tibetan dinner and dance performance in the evening.
Days 14-15 : Shigatse & New Tingri
Travel through dramatic scenery to Shigatse and explore the city. Continue to New Tingri the next day.
Day 16 : Mt Everest Base Camp
Drive to Mt Everest and visit base camp to admire the stunning north face of the world’s tallest mountain peak at 8,848m. Visit Rongbuk Monastery and stay overnight in the township.
Day 17 : Old Tingri
Wake up early to see the sun rise over Mt Everest before driving to Old Tingri.
Days 18-19 : Shigatse & Gyantse
Drive to Shigatse. The next day visit Tashilhunpo Monastery, the traditional residence of the Panchen Lama, second only to the Dali Lama. Continue to Gyantse to visit unique Pelkor Monastery.
Day 20 : Tsedang
See the Gyantse Kumbum before driving to Tsedang, cradle of Tibetan civilisation.
Day 21 : Yumbulhakang Palace
Start the day at Yumbulhakang Palace, then continue to Chang Chun Monastery and the King’s Tomb. Overnight in Lhasa.
Day 22 : Giant Pandas, Chengdu
Fly to Chengdu and visit the famous Panda Conservation Centre. Sample traditional Sichuan cuisine.
Day 23 : Fly Chengdu to UK
Fly to the UK arriving the same or following day.
