Winter Rail Spectacular

Day 1 London – Toronto
We begin with Titan’s VIP Home Departure Service® to London Heathrow Airport and your direct scheduled Air Canada flight to Toronto. On arrival our coach transfers you to downtown Toronto and our hotel for the next two nights, the Metropolitan Hotel. Time to settle in this evening and a chance to make your first acquaintance with the city.

Day 2 Toronto
After our morning city tour, the rest of the day is free to enjoy Toronto. The CN Tower is worth a visit before you leave the city. The world’s tallest free standing tower, some 1,700 feet high, houses the 360 Revolving Restaurant, as well as the observation deck and its sections of glass flooring.

Day 3 Toronto – Niagara Falls – The ‘Canadian’
We depart Toronto this morning for a full day excursion to the spectacle that is Niagara Falls. Even at this time of year when the Falls may be frozen, one of the natural wonders of the world is still an essential inclusion. Once in Niagara there will be plenty of time to explore. Late this afternoon, we return to Toronto and board ‘The Canadian’.

Day 4 ‘The Canadian’
We wake to the hypnotic sound of the train moving steadily over the tracks, with the constant, ever moving backdrop of a spectacular winter landscape.

Day 5 ‘The Canadian’
This morning we leave Ontario behind and cross into Manitoba, where the train is scheduled to stop in Winnipeg. There will be a good opportunity to walk on solid ground and stretch your legs. All aboard as we cross the central prairies of Manitoba and Saskatchewan to Saskatoon, where we make a brief stop later this evening.

Day 6 ‘The Canadian’ – Jasper
Before continuing west this morning, toward the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, we stop in Edmonton the Provincial Capital of Alberta. Our dramatic ascent to the Rockies begins west of Edmonton at around Hinton, where shortly after, we enter Jasper National Park and arrive in the town of Jasper this afternoon, here we say goodbye to ‘the Canadian’. Our coach awaits to transfer us to our hotel for the next two nights, the Lobstick Lodge. The remainder of the evening is free.

Day 7 Jasper
Jasper’s idyllic setting is a jealously guarded area of outstanding natural beauty, particularly in winter when resplendent in a coat of snow and ice. This morning’s tour of the area will include two of the four surrounding lakes; Lakes Pyramid and Patricia. This afternoon there may be an opportunity for an optional guided walking tour of Maligne Canyon.

Day 8 Jasper – Sun Peaks
Today we begin our journey to the popular ski resort of Sun Peaks. The scenery today is spectacular as we drive along the Yellowhead Highway and pass by Mount Robson, the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies. We arrive into Sun Peaks village, nestled at the centre of the resort’s three mountains and our hotel for the night, the Coast Sundance Lodge.

Day 9 Sunpeaks – Vancouver – Victoria
This morning, after breakfast, we continue west, enjoying the ever-changing scenery. In the afternoon we arrive into Vancouver and transfer to Tsawwassen to board the ferry to Vancouver Island. The sailing takes us to Swartz Bay through the Gulf Islands, some of the most attractive and unspoilt coastal scenery you are likely to come across on North America’s west coast. Victoria lays claim to being one of Canada’s most beautiful cities and here we transfer to our hotel for the next two nights, the Executive House.

Day 10 Victoria
Today is free for you to fully explore British Columbia’s provincial capital. Full of character, Victoria’s Old Town, the area from James Bay along the Harbour front north to Chinatown, is well worth a visit, with much of the original architecture restored and converted into shops and restaurants.

Day 11 Victoria – Vancouver
We leave Victoria behind us this morning for the return ferry crossing to the mainland and Vancouver. On arrival there will be a city tour, which will include Gastown, Chinatown and the 1,000 acre Stanley Park. Later this afternoon we transfer to our hotel, the Coast Coal Harbour.

Day 12 Vancouver – London
This morning is free for some last minute exploration and sightseeing. This afternoon we transfer to Vancouver airport for the return Air Canada flight, direct to London. Extend your stay – call for details.

Day 13 London
Arrival at London Heathrow Airport where our staff will greet and transfer you to Titan transport for the journey home to your own front door.

There are many remote communities who are dependant on Canada’s rail system. Consequently, freight services carrying supplies have priority on the lines which can result in occasional delays to our itinerary.
For the 15th November 2012 departure you will be staying at the Coast Sundance lodge in Sun Peaks for one night rather than aboard Via Rail’s Canadian.
